The New Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Offering increased engine power, lower weight, shorter transmission ratios and a chassis optimised to an even higher standard, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS sets the foundation for homologating the racing version of the Porsche 911 GT3.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS thus provides the key ingredients for extending the unparalleled racing record of Porsche and continues the series of absolute, uncompromised, motor sport-oriented editions of the Porsche 911 that are homologated for road use and which can trace their roots back to the classic Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 of 1973.

The heart of the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the power unit, is based on the proven flat-six cylinder ‘boxer’ engine already featured in the Porsche 911 GT3. Like the latter, the RS power unit now displaces 3.8 instead of 3.6-litres, but in this new model is tuned to deliver even more power and rev even faster and more dynamically.

Porsche 911 Carrera Review

The Porsche 911 Carrera comes in a variety of formats; I counted 13 but Porsche is about to add a 911 GT2 to the list. Prices start from £60,810 rising to £94,280 for the GT3 RS and £97,840 for the 911 Turbo. With a menu of Targa’s, Cabrio’s and Coupes, there is plenty to choose from, but what’s new for 2007?

It could be said that the iconic, 911 Carrera hasn’t changed too much, over the years. The changes have been gradual, through more ‘evolutionary’ transition than outright makeovers and excessive re-design.

Porsche tells us that the latest 911 Carrera and Carrera S has undergone some restyling from front to rear in order to make the car even more dynamic. It now has a wider track and a tightened, slimmer waistline; there are new headlights with extra, but separate, illumination in the front section. Bumpers and wheel-arches have been accentuated and there are new, double-arm, door mirrors and an optimised rear spoiler for better aerodynamics - it looks good, too.

What Would You Buy? 2009 Carrera S Or BMW M3?

Now that the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S has upped the ante with a 385HP engine, awesome PDK tranny, bluetooth and satellite radio capability, has it regained the crown over the new BMW M3?

For a short period of time the M3 had more flexibility and was faster than the 2008 911S.

But now that Porsche has tweaked the 09 version, is it back to the drawing board for the M3?

Is the ‘S’ worth the extra dough?
